Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma will captain the UP Warriorz in the 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) because their regular captain, Alyssa Healy, is unavailable. Healy, an Australian player, recently played in the Ashes Test as a batter only due to a minor injury. She has been advised to rest for a few weeks and will miss this year’s tournament.

Deepti has been with UP Warriorz since the first season and is their second-highest wicket-taker, taking 19 wickets in 17 matches. She has also scored 385 runs, with 295 of those coming last year when she was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP). Last year, she also became the first Indian to take a hat-trick in the WPL.

The 27-year-old, who is India’s top wicket-taker in T20 internationals, is from Uttar Pradesh. This season, she will be the first player to lead her home team in their home stadium, as the tournament will be played in more locations. UP Warriorz will begin their season in February against the Gujarat Giants and will play three home games next month.
