Indian Premier League

The Indian Premier League, or IPL, is a men’s Twenty20 cricket league held every year by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Started in 2007, the league has ten teams based on states or cities. It is the most popular and wealthiest cricket league globally and takes place from March to May. The IPL has a special spot in the cricket calendar, so fewer international matches happen during this time. It is also the most-watched sports event in India, followed by the Pro Kabaddi League and the Indian Super League.

In 2014, the IPL was the sixth most-attended sports league in the world. In 2010, it became the first sports event to be streamed live on YouTube.
