Is Gautam Gambhir Biased? Shami Ignored Again While Harshit Rana Gets Another Chance!

The debate over who is the better bowler between Mohammed Shami and Harshit Rana has once again caught attention. Many say that based on experience, Shami is ahead. However, in today’s time, Harshit Rana is seen as a three-format player representing India in Tests, ODIs, and T20s. On the other hand, Shami has been dropped from all formats, and there seems to be no place for him in the current team.
Former cricketer Manoj Tiwary, who has often been a critic of Gautam Gambhir, raised serious questions about this selection. He said, “First of all, make the selection meetings live. Let’s have a poll and see who gets more votes — Shami or Harshit Rana?” Tiwary claimed that favoritism is happening in Rana’s selection. Despite being expensive and failing to take wickets at times, Rana continues to get picked for new series, while Shami is repeatedly ignored.

Tiwary asked, “Why is Mohammed Shami being overlooked? I want to know the reason, and I hope the truth comes out soon.” He added that while Harshit Rana is a talented player, his recent performances have been inconsistent and often costly for the team. Yet, he is being preferred over an experienced bowler like Shami.
In recent matches, Rana’s bowling has been ordinary. In Tests, he showed promise but lacked control; in T20s, he was expensive — especially during the Asia Cup — and still found a place in the ODI squad. Tiwary clarified that the issue is not with Rana personally, but with the unfair treatment of Shami. “What has Shami done wrong? Why isn’t he even being considered?” he asked.
When Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar was questioned about Shami’s absence, he replied, “I have no update on Shami.” Tiwary criticized this response, saying, “If the chief selector doesn’t have an update, then who will? The local vegetable vendor?”
Agarkar has maintained that the team is planning with a long-term vision and that Rana fits into those plans. Still, many believe that Shami’s experience — especially in overseas conditions like Australia — could have been valuable for India.
Reports suggest that Shami’s recent domestic performances, including the Duleep Trophy, were not impressive. BCCI officials have hinted that unless Shami performs well in domestic cricket again, his return to the national team looks difficult. As things stand, it seems Mohammed Shami’s international career may be nearing its end, with no signs of a comeback in any format.
