Sahibzada Farhan Dethrones Virat Kohli: New Record for Most Runs in a Single T20 World Cup.

Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan eclipses Virat Kohli’s long-standing record for the most runs in a single T20 World Cup campaign.

Pakistan opening batter Sahibzada Farhan continued his extraordinary form in the T20 World Cup 2026, and on Saturday, he shattered Virat Kohli’s long-standing record for the most runs in a single edition of the tournament.

The right-hander achieved this historic milestone during the Group 2 Super 8s do-or-die clash against Sri Lanka at the Pallekele International Stadium. Heading into the contest against the Island Nation, Farhan required just 37 more runs to surpass Kohli’s 12-year-old record.

The 29-year-old reached the landmark in the 5th over of the innings against Dushmantha Chameera. He launched the over with a six and a four, immediately shifting the pressure onto the right-arm pacer. After taking a single on the third delivery, he returned to strike on the fourth ball. Displaying the exceptional touch that has defined his 2026 campaign, Farhan equaled Kohli’s record on the final ball of the over with another single.

Moments later, he made the record exclusively his own by smashing a boundary on the first ball of the sixth over, bowled by Dasun Shanaka.

Previously, Kohli had set the benchmark in 2014, amassing 319 runs in a single T20 World Cup edition — a performance that powered India to the final, where they narrowly lost to Sri Lanka. For his remarkable tally, Kohli was named Player of the Tournament, an honor he claimed again in 2016.
